FRAUD
Well it happened to us. Our identity was stolen this weekend. We think it happened when we payed for our hotel online. We had thousands of dollars stolen from our account. Whoever has our account numbers was trying desperately to get to Egypt.
They tried to purchase tickets to Egypt four times. Four times it processed through our account and the bank would flag it and reverse the charges. Unfortunately they succeeded in purchasing two cell phones and buying a bunch of other stuff. Luckily the bank will refund all our money. It's just a long annoying process to get this all cleaned up. We had to close all of our accounts down and start new ones. The bank suggests that everyone have two separate checking accounts. One that is you primary account and one you transfer money into anytime you make an online or over the phone purchase. I know that may seem like a pain but after 3 long days of dealing with this fraud it's worth it to me. The bank said that right now is fraud season. So look out my friends...I never thought it would happen to me either!
What a nightmare. We haven't had that happen to us, yet, knock on wood... :(
ReplyDeleteHorrible. It has happened to us a few times and it is such a pain!
ReplyDeleteGood idea about the 2 accounts. We currently have 2 but are waiting to close the Seattle acct. I think we may now keep it open.
I hope you get things settled soon.
Oh my gosh, that sucks! Sounds like whomever stole your identity was up to no good. Hope things clear up quickly. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Seriously, what a nightmare. And...as if you have time to deal with all of this. Don't you just hate dishonest people? (O.K., I know we're not supposed to "hate", but you can seriously "dislike" them, right?)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that happened. When that happened to us, our bank called us to see if we were in NJ buying booze, hightops, sweatpants, jewelry, etc. Obviously not our place to go nor things we buy. BIG FLAG! ;o) I felt so violated! That sounds cliche, but I so did.
ReplyDeleteokay, the situation isn't funny at all, but that second cartoon was REALY funny. that's good advice on the second bank account...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry guys! Truly we had someone use our name to get a dish satalite in Anacortes Wa. That was six years ago, we still haven't been able to get the dish people to believe our proof! good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteOh man! That is horrible. I just had a similar experience last month. We have our old NH account that we used to pay our NH mortgage. Anyway, that account never gets used except for the monthly deposit and mortgage withdrawal. I noticed that there were several online purchases on that account. I called the bank to report it, but in the meantime I called the number listed on my statement. After numerous calls and being on hold for30-40 minutes I discovered the source of the charges...
ReplyDeleteA subscription account to P@RN!
It made me sick to think that somehow my account, with my name, was in anyway associated with that garbage.
Fortunately it was under $100 and I was reimbursed the money through my bank, but still, it makes me sick.
Good luck sorting all this out. :(
that sounds like a nightmare... :(
ReplyDeletei hope it all gets taken care of soon!
That is my biggest fear. I really need to take more time to make sure things like that don't happen.
ReplyDeletemajor stink bomb! Hopefully you stay with it to get it cleared up. I gave up with the hassle on mine and to this day I'm flagged as a crook at Wally World and Home Debt because of some idiot running a scam with my name... getting the last name spelled correctly of course, but mis-spelling my first name. Come on... JEFFREY! How hard can it be! Two E's, not three!
ReplyDeleteahhhhhh scary!! sorry to have that happen, stupid!
ReplyDeleteon another note, cute nephew, so sweet!
and cute costumes on those cute kids!
